Katie Holmes brings to the screen Rare Objects, based on the novel by Katherine Tessaro with the same title. As a co-writer, co-producer, director and co-star with Julia Mayorga.
The Synopsis
RARE OBJECTS is a story about friendship that centers around a young woman (Julia Mayorga, “American Rust”) who reclaims her own sense of self through her journey of self-discovery that involves a new job, new friends and healing.
The actress from Toledo, Ohio, Katie Holmes won national recognition in the late 90s for her character, Joey Potter in WB’s Dawson’s Creek. A role she auditioned for via FedEx because she had Damn Yankees school play she didn’t want to cancel. Holmes has been in other projects like Disturbing Behavior, Batman Begins, Reelz Channel television series The Kennedys as Jackie Kennedy and Jack and Jill among others. Her debut in a full-length film as a producer, director and protagonist was in 2016 with All We Had then came Alone Together.

The co-star Julia Mayorga is a graduate from the Two Year Conservatory Program at the Terry Knickers studio in New York City. Mayorga made her acting debut in the short film, It Is Deadly So. And is known for her character, Lee English in the Showtime series American Dust. Starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney. Starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.
I was connected with Katie Holmes and Julia Mayorga to talk about Rare Objects. They both mentioned New York being a character in the film. Homes discussed getting to wear several hats for this project and trying to make sure to bring the audience close to the characters. While Mayorga talked about representing those of us whose parents left their mother land for a better life and how she relates having parents from Nicaragua.
