Keanu Reeves Says Matrix 4 Script Is Very Ambitious

No, the Wachowskis aren’t very consistent. It’s been a while since they’ve delivered anything remotely close to the quality of Speed Racer, a film I stand by to this day as one of their underrated gems. But, I have always appreciated their ability to reach for the stars. No matter what they put out, I never get the impression that they’re phoning it in.

Now, we know that only one of them — Lana Wachowski — will be returning to the director’s chair this time around, and a part of me worried what Lilly Wachowski’s absence meant regarding the project. Would this be some Hollywood-ized watered-down version? Would it be lacking the ambition of the previous ones, as flawed as they may be?

Speaking with E.T., star Keanu Reeves put my concerns at ease.

“It’s very ambitious, as it should be!”

Of course, this doesn’t mean the film is any good. It may ultimately be as big of a mess as Jupiter Ascending, but with a Wachowski involved, I’d almost rather have it be a mess only they could make rather than some boring shell of its former self.
