Kelly Walker on Suicide Aftermath in My Fiona [Exclusive Interview]

My Fiona from Kelly Walker

The emotional fallout and consequences of suicide are ever-reaching on the loved ones. In Kelly Walker’s My Fiona, suicide takes its toll on the best friend and a wife, who end up looking for consolation with each other.

The film stars Jeanette Maus (Your Sister’s Sister, My Effortless Brilliance), Corbin Reid (How to Get Away with Murder, Valor), Elohim Nycalove (The Descendant, Her Only Choice), and Sara Amini (Future Man, The Twilight Zone). Kelly Walker directed and wrote the movie.

Here is the official synopsis for My Fiona:

In the wake of an unexpected suicide, Jane (Jeanette Maus) is devastated by the loss of her best friend Fiona and finds purpose in helping Fiona’s widow Gemma (Corbin Reid) care for their seven-year-old son Bailey. While Jane’s carefree nature compliments Bailey’s youthful imagination, Gemma throws herself into work, unwilling to let anyone sense the cracks in her façade.

As Jane unwittingly integrates herself into Fiona’s family, she finds herself living the life her best friend left behind. In navigating their complex familial situation, Jane and Gemma’s relationship develops from a tentative friendship to a deeper affair that helps them cope, but threatens their ability to heal.

In her feature film debut, writer/director Kelly Walker sheds light on the complex familial situations and relationships that occur after the sudden loss of a loved one, while incredible performances by Jeannette Maus and Corbin Reid beautifully transverse the intricacies of grief with moments of levity and joy.
