Kathleen Kennedy talks about whether sequel trilogy characters could return and an emotional Obi-Wan reunion. The Lucasfilm president recently spoke with Empire Online about, you know, Star Wars. It’s no surprise that the emotional Obi-Wan reunion Kennedy talks about is Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor.
“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited,” said Kennedy. “They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important Star Wars was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”
Perhaps what might be more of interest to some fans is what Kennedy said about sequel trilogy characters returning.
“Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget,” teased Kennedy of that third generation of Star Wars heroes. “They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.”
That may be good news for some fans and not others. However even as someone who disliked the sequel trilogy, it was not that I in any way hated the characters. I’d happily watch a show or movie based on Finn travelling around with Rey learning to be a Jedi, and recruited new Jedi along the way. Well, as long as J.J. Abrams isn’t involved with it. A new Jedi Order is something that was begun by Luke Skywalker, but then for the sake of that sequel story was ended by Ben Solo. It really is time for someone to start bringing back the Jedi properly. There can still be Jedi who turn bad to deal with, and problems outside of the Dark Side. It could actually be a pretty fun era to explore?
