Kevin Feige Admits That Eternals Is A Risk But One Worth Taking

First Eternals Footage

Marvel Studios are filming a big movie, with an ensemble cast, featuring rather niche comic book characters. This wouldn’t be the first time they have done this, as Guardians of the Galaxy certainly covers these parameters. That movie was a massive hit, though the upcoming Eternals movie from Chloe Zhao will seemingly have a very different tone from that of the Guardians movies.

Recently Kevin Feige talked about Eternals in THR’s Awards Chatter Podcast, and he admitted that while Eternals is a risk, it is also a risk worth taking.

“It is a very big movie. It is a very expensive movie. And we are making it because we believe in [director Chloe Zhao’s] vision and we believe in what those characters can do and we believe we need to continue to grow and evolve and change and push our genre forward, that’s a risk if I’ve ever heard one.”

It could be argued that Eternals features an even more star-studded cast than Guardians and features even more niche comic book characters. I honestly knew next to nothing about The Eternals characters before this movie was announced, and since, I’ve had to read up on them, as I never knew about this comic back in the day.

Eternals does seem like a risk for Marvel Studios, especially as the general feeling I get from fans is that they are not super excited for this one, but then, people said Guardians of the Galaxy would be Marvel’s first big flop, and that was way off the mark. I am personally more intrigued by Eternals than any other upcoming Marvel movie, probably because I genuinely have very little idea of what to expect.

Like most fans, I will be hoping that the magic formula Marvel seems to have doesn’t run out with Eternals. I guess it will all depend on how movie audiences react to the post-Endgame version of the MCU and the movie specifically? What do you think about Feige’s comments, are you excited, worried or melancholic about Eternals? Leave them below if you have them in the usual spot.
