Kevin Feige Compares Black Widow To…Better Call Saul?

I’ll admit it. When Black Widow bit the dust in Avengers: Endgame, I was a little pissed. Not only was I upset that one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was now dead, but I was also upset at what it meant for her film. Unless Marvel Studios did some odd re-jiggering, there was little chance this would be anything but a prequel film.

Speaking with io9, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige seemed to hint that, yes, this movie would indeed be a prequel…but that’s not to say it would have no effect on the main story going forward. It could potentially still have a real relevance to the overarching story.

“There’s a method to the madness,” Feige told the outlet. “There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.”

If that isn’t enough information for you to hold onto, Feige gave an interesting comparison.

“I look at Better Call Saul as a wonderful example of a prequel that almost completely stands on its own apart from Breaking Bad because it informs you about so many things you didn’t know about before. So time will tell which way we’ve gone with a supposed Black Widow movie.”

Supposed. Ha! We all know that’s happening. And I love that he comments on it even though it hasn’t been officially announced.

What do you think of Feige’s comments? I know personally, I was worried this film would have prequel-itis, where I wouldn’t care about what was happening because we kinda know where the story ends up. If Feige is correct, this one could stand alone, all while contributing to the world going forward. I think I’d be on board for that. Will you?
