Kevin Feige Confirms Cap Was Always Able To Wield Thor’s Hammer

Sometimes fans are crazy and sometimes fans are actually pretty smart. We all remember in Avengers: Age of Ultron there was a moment when all the other Avengers were trying their darndest to wield Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer. It was a fantastic and fun character-centric scene in the middle of a painfully mediocre movie that gave us some of that sweet, sweet character interaction we love most in these movies.

Within that scene, there was that standout Cap moment when he budged Mjolnir oh-so-slightly, causing Thor to show the slightest bit of concern. In Avengers: Endgame, however, we then see Cap full-on wielding the hammer in his fight against Thanos, and it got fans wondering: had he always been worthy? My personal theory was that the secrets he had regarding Bucky and Tony’s parents were preventing him from being worthy, and with those being out in the open — and him learning from it — he’d now grown worthy.

Most other fans, however, thought maybe Cap was holding back, so as not to make Thor look bad. But what does Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige think? In a recent AMA on Reddit, he gave his own two cents.

“We think he was always worthy and was being polite in Age of Ultron.”

So, it sounds to me like we have our answer. I can believe whatever I want, but it sounds like the powers that be have their own headcanon, and I’d choose theirs over mine most days of the week (at least on the day we’re not talking about some of the time travel elements in Endgame).
