Aquaman’s James Wan Directing Debut Episode Of Netflix’s Magic Order From Mark Millar, Lindsey Beer Showrunning

Well, this is a pretty cool story on several levels. First up, we have the property The Magic Order. This was the first comic printed after Netflix acquired Mark Millar’s MillarWorld, so it’s a completely original property for them. The fact that Millar is involved on any level is pretty damn slick. But then we have the announcement that the comic is getting a live-action series adapting the project, and some great talent on board.

First up is Aquaman‘s James Wan. The blockbuster and horror director will be directing the debut episode of the Magic Order adaptation and will act as executive producer. But that’s not all. Lindsey Beer is the scribe attached to write the adaptation, and she will also be acting as showrunner, which I find very interesting.

Beer has been a writer I’ve had my eye on for a while, as she’s had a ridiculous number of high-profile projects in the works for years. By high-profile, I mean Chaos Walking (a project that has been heavily delayed), The Kingkiller Chronicle, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, Silver Sable, Short Circuit, and M.A.S.K. And yet, in spite of all those projects, we haven’t seen much from her just yet.

Last year, her romantic comedy Sierra Burgess is a Loser hit Netflix, but apart from that, there hasn’t been much to see. Though, based on all her projects and this rise to showrunner on Netflix, it does seem like she has some great writing chops.
