Kevin Feige Describes A Pretty Dark Scene With Thanos That Didn’t Make It Into Avengers: Endgame

One of the things we have heard about Avengers: Endgame that didn’t make it into the movie was a scene where Thanos tossed the severed head of Captain America towards another version of Cap as they returned from the time heists with the Infinity Stones. I think most fans agreed that was probably a bit too much for a PG-13 movie, however the scene in question was even darker than we first imagined according to Marvel studios head Kevin Feige.

Speaking with Empire recently Feige describes the scene in question from their original vision,

“One of the ideas was, when they finish the time heist, they returned to a world [in 2023] that Thanos had already conquered, that involved all of that, the throne made of bones and skulls and had him tossing, like a bowling ball, Captain America’s severed skull head, still in the cowl, to Captain America. And it was pretty cool, but the logic to get there defeated us.”

I get what Feige is saying about the logic, it might have seemed a cool idea, but if the MCU’s version of Earth’s Cap was somehow dead, then how could he have gone back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones and come back again? It doesn’t make sense given the rules they established in the movie, however even if it didn’t, it seems a little much for this movie. For a start could Hulk, Tony or anyone else have brought back all the humans Thanos must have killed to make that throne of skulls? If they were able to do that, what was to stop them bringing back Vision or Widow?

I think the movie worked well as it was with the team already having unsnapped everyone prior to Thanos appearing with his army. It just seems like this was a cool idea that couldn’t practically work within the confines and rules of the movie. Maybe Feige and co could pull something like this together in animated form for their What if? Series that’s coming to Disney +? It would be cool to see an alternate and darker take on Endgame as long as it wasn’t canon.
