Kevin Feige Explains Why The Avengers: Endgame Title Was Kept Secret For So Long

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is right around the corner but many people are already looking past that to what may be the most anticipated film of the year, Avengers: Endgame. This will be the culmination of years and years of films that have seen the introduction of many of our favorite Marvel characters as well as the infamous Infinity Stones that Thanos was after. After the release of Avengers: Infinity War Marvel fans were left waiting for an unusual long time for the official tile of this upcoming film. Why was that?

In an earlier interview back in 2017 President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige explained that announcing the title for the final film would have been a spoiler. During a an interview with Collider at the press day for Captain Marvel he was asked about the length of time the title was kept under wraps for.

“Well, I think I’d said that it all had gotten blown out of proportion to some extent. But it was a spoiler, because if you knew before Infinity War came out that the next movie was called Endgame, then you know that there wasn’t an ending to Infinity War. But that had been the title of the movie from the moment we conceived of doing the two films. In large part, because…it’s seeded right there. I mean, it’s seeded in Ultron.”

Feige and the directors the Russo Brothers had always insisted that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 were separate standalone films, even though they were shot right after another. But even going into Avengers: Infinity War most Marvel fans knew that this film was never meant to be a standalone film and that whatever happened in it would likely not be resolved until Avengers 4. So when the title was finally announced it didn’t surprise many. All we really want at this point is to watch the film and see how it all ends!
