Kevin Feige On The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’s Impact On MCU

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's impact

This weekend saw Kevin Feige talk about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s impact on the MCU as a whole. Feige also warns fans against unrealistic expectations. In other words, don’t expect Endgame level Universe changing twists for every MCU show or movie.

Feige along with various crew and cast on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier held an online virtual press event which LRM attended. Fiege was asked about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s impact on the MCU as a whole.

“Well, I mean, the characters of Bucky and Sam are essential to the MCU. As they change, evolve, and whatever they go through, [they] could and should have a big impact on the MCU” he started. “The answer is ‘yes,’ [but] it’s hard to navigate every fan theory that’s going to pop up.”

“Not everything is world-shattering to the point of bringing in some giant element of the comics that’s never been there before or smashing the Earth into two planets. There can be character shifts that have massive implications for the stories we’re telling in the future, so it’ll be a combination. And the end of the show does split the Earth in two; I forgot, so don’t print that. That’s a spoiler.”

I won’t speak for Feige, but I will guess this response is at least partially based on fan reactions to WandaVision. Fans seems to expect that the Multiverse would be ripped open and that WandaVision would finish on some huge cliff-hanger for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Realistically, most MCU movies have not had that kind of far reaching plot thread. Yet, perhaps because we have so much more time on Disney+, and the weekly release gives fans time for speculation, our expectations have grown. I still maintain that whilst some of the fan theories for WandaVision were cool, they were never promised.

So is Feige setting our expectations a little here. Whilst he is happy with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we should not expect it to fundamentally shift the MCU on a new path. You know what, that’s absolutely fine. All I am hoping for from this show is that it’s a cool story. Perhaps by the end I’d expect Sam will have adopted the mantle of Captain America, even if just internally. At this point though, just a few days from the first Episode, I have no other expectations for this show. I can’t wait to find out more.

What about you, what expectations if any do have for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier? What do you think of Feige’s comments about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s impact on the MCU? Leave any thoughts you have below.
