Kevin Feige Reacts To James Cameron’s Avengers Fatigue Comments

While most of us are beyond excited for this week’s release of Avengers: Infinity War, one person in particular, legendary director James Cameron, doesn’t seem to have the same enthusiasm and conveyed his thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“I’m hoping we’re going to start getting Avenger fatigue. There are other stories to tell besides, you know, hypogonadal males. Hypogonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. [It’s] not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on, guys.”

After a press conference in Los Angeles, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke with Vulture, and was asked what he thought about Cameron’s comments. Feige was very cordial in his response and took the comments in stride, concentrating on the brighter side of things — you know, the part where Cameron said, “Not that I don’t love the movies.”

“Uh, he loves the movies! That’s awesome! Wow, James Cameron loves our movies! That’s exciting!”

While his accomplishments leave no reason for him to be bitter, that’s how Cameron’s comments seem to come across. Marvel continues to consistently put out quality films, while Cameron’s Avatar has had nearly a decade-long hiatus. Cameron is right about one thing though, there are other stories to tell, but why can’t we have both superhero films along with films like Avatar? It doesn’t have to be one or the other.
