Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Film Is ‘A Ways Off’

It wasn’t too long ago that it was reported that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was going to develop a Star Wars movie. The news came in a whirlwind this past September, and the general consensus among fans seemed to be that this was a good idea. After all, with Star Wars being the polarizing franchise it is now, why not bring in the guy who made Marvel Studios the juggernaut it is?

But how did this come about? I know some of us here at LRM Online had speculated that Feige could end up leading Lucasfilm after president Kathleen Kennedy (though I’ve never been partial to that theory since it wouldn’t be a step up for Feige), but what’s the real story here?

Kennedy herself spoke with Rolling Stone recently, where she was asked about how Feige ended up at the head of a Star Wars picture.

“Kevin has been a huge fan of Star Wars, and he’s made that pretty clear. And I think when he went off to do a couple of the Spider-Man movies, he realized that he could kind of step in and out of what he’s doing specifically with just Marvel. He talked to us, and he talked to the studio and said, “You know, ‘Is there any chance I could step in and do one of the Star Wars movies?’” And I thought it was a pretty cool idea. So we’re just beginning to talk about what that might be and when that might be. But it’s a ways off.”

So, from the looks of this, this wasn’t a move from Disney and Lucasfilm to groom Feige to take over for Kennedy. Of course, you never know how things will turn out, but it doesn’t look like that’s in the cards. And with Feige recently taking on the role of chief creative officer at Marvel, it seems even less likely.

Another thing to note is the very end, where Kennedy says his movie is a ways off. With the well over a dozen projects already scheduled for Marvel Studios, this is a man who truly has his plate full for the foreseeable future.

How soon do you think Feige will be able to get his Star Wars movie out? Let us know down below!
