Old Tweets have claimed another victim as comedian Kevin Hart has stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars. Tweets that are nearly a decade old were once again brought up, and Hart just decided to bow out. The Academy gave Hart the choice of apologizing and remaining as the host of the event, or not apologizing and being removed as host of the awards ceremony.
Initially, Hart refused to issue an apology, stating he has done so in the past for these tweets. He has since backpedaled on the refusal to apologize, posting one to his Twitter account yesterday, which you can see below.
I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.

Hart joins Roseanne Barr, James Gunn, and Dan Harmon as celebrities who have received heavy backlash from tweets that were deemed offensive in one way or another, with Barr and Gunn suffering the worst consequences –h Roseanne being fired from her wildly popular television show and Gunn being removed as the writer/director of Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Personally, I think this is an awful pattern. In a country where free speech is such a fundamental part of its core being, the precedent that has already been set is, in my opinion, dangerous to free speech.
