Kevin Smith Pitched Mallrats 2 Series To Netflix, Showtime, And Hulu Hopes New Jay And Silent Bot Film Rekindles Interest

Kevin Smith may be a stoner, but the dude is anything be lazy. The dude may not work on high-profile Hollywood pics, but he always has his plate full. Between all his podcasts, his trips to Vancouver to work on Supergirl and The Flash, and his neverending list of current personal projects, it’s clear that the man has plenty of big ideas he would like to realize in some form.

If you follow Smith on his podcasts or on social media, you’ll know that he’s been busy on trying to resurrect a few of his old franchises, including takes on Clerks III, Mallrats 2, and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Of those three, only one, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, is actually coming to fruition, with that film getting ready to start production in the next month or so. Though, in regards to one of those that didn’t make it — Mallrats 2 — You may recall that a couple years back, Smith was pitching it around. Apparently, some fans are still hoping streaming services like Netflix would be open to making it happen.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like it’ll happen, as Smith took to Twitter to share that he already made a pass at Netflix and a few other big networks:

Pitched it to @netflix two years ago. They did not feel the same way you do. Neither did @hulu or @Showtime. I’m hoping #JayAndSilentBobReboot changes that

As I stated above, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is one project that actually will be getting made. If that film manages to take off well enough, could a Mallrats 2 series actually be a possibility? Well, as much as I like Kevin Smith, I can’t say I’m expecting the Jay and Silent Bob to puncture any demographic outside of Smith fans, but you never know.

Though if it does manage to strike hard enough, do you think you’d actually like to see Mallrats 2 come to fruition? Let us know your thoughts down below!
