Kevin Smith Teases ‘Clever’ Stan Lee Scene In Twilight Of The Mallrats

Kevin Smith discusses a Stan Lee scene in the Mallrats sequel? Yeah, you know you wanna know more.

Kevin Smith was putting Stan Lee in movies before it was the cool thing to do. In fact, for many comic book fans, it may have been a real awakening. Sure, you knew who Stan Lee was, but to actually get the guy acknowledged by a movie? I’m sure it felt totally unreal for comic book fans of the era. With his upcoming sequel, Twilight of the Mallrats, it is a real shame that there couldn’t be another cameo to help bookend the whole concept.

But, where there’s a will there’s a way. Kevin Smith has always been one to find a way to bake in a callback. It looks like Twilight of the Mallrats was no exception. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Smith opened up about a Stan Lee Scene that meant a lot to him.

“We have a Stan Lee scene. Obviously, Stan Lee won’t be in it because Stan’s passed, but same Brodie Bruce and Stan plays a big part of it,” Smith told the outlet. “So there’s a, as a writer, like you know my daughter hates how into myself and my writing I am but sometimes as a writer I’m like ‘oh that was clever, that’s clever.’ And stuff like where you want to share it with people but you’re like, ‘I’ll wait until I can give it to everybody at once’ but the Stan Lee scene in Twilight of the Mallrats is one of those moments that I consider like ‘oh, that’s clever,’ and even if I wasn’t me and I just liked my movies I would be like, ‘That’s a good. What a good — what a way to do it, man.’”

So, what kind of clever scene could these be? Beats me. While I wasn’t a big fan of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, it did have its surprises. I was intrigued by how Smith managed to tie up loose ends in Chasing Amy in a scene that was virtually a pick-up. Perhaps we’ll get something that’s more along those lines. It may not be a scene with Stan Lee, but his legacy can certainly be felt and thematically tied in.

What do you think of Kevin Smith and his comments about a Stan Lee scene in Twilight of the Mallrats? Do you think the film needs to have a Stan Lee scene, or is it just paying homage where it’s not needed? Let us know your thoughts down below!
