Kevin Smith’s Daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, Wants To Play Her Namesake In A DC Project

Without a doubt, director Kevin Smith has made his mark on geek culture. Smith’s first film, Clerks, had an entire conversation revolve around the second Death Star, Chasing Amy followed two comic book artists, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back bat down online haters, and the man also has gone on to become a voice in the geek news business. Smith is also well known for naming his daughter Harley Quinn Smith, after the DC character, who was originally created by Paul Dini for Batman: The Animated Series.

As we know, the character of Harley Quinn has gone on to become one of the most recognized DC characters of all time, and as we know, actress Margot Robbie portrayed the character in the recent Suicide Squad film, and was considered one of the big highlights of it. In the time since the movie’s release, we’ve heard news that Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley in a spinoff film entitled Gotham City Sirens

Well, it sounds like we have at least one other actress who wants to get involved — Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith, who has thus far been in two of her father’s movies, Tusk and Yoga Hosers, and has most recently had a speaking role in an episode of Supergirl.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Smith went on to express her interesting in portraying Harley in some capacity in the future:

“Before they even mentioned that she was going to make a spinoff, I talked to my agent and I was like, ‘Honestly, I know this isn’t even a project yet, but I just want you to know that when the day comes that they do start putting this into production I need you to make sure, if there is a young Harley Quinn role, that no one other than Harley Quinn plays that role.’ [My agent] was like, ‘Okay…’ [laughs] I don’t even know how long I’ve been waiting for this.”

Of course, since Robbie seems to have a lockdown on the character for the foreseeable future, there’s little chance that’ll actually happen on the film front, and even Smith acknowledges how great Robbie is at playing the character. She then went on to say she’d be interested in more roles than just that one.

“Honestly, any villain would be fun. I like to play characters that are most opposite from me, I think it’s more fun that way and any villain in a movie or on The Flash. Joey King just played Magenta I think, on The Flash. Something like that. There’s not too many teenage female villains, but any sort of villainous role would be so awesome.

“Just alert the CW, I am available. Sound the alarm. Six months is going to go by in a flash, so I am ready for the CW.”

While I don’t see her playing Harley Quinn any time soon, I can definitely see her playing a female villain at some point down the line. As much as I disliked both Tusk and Yoga Hosers, it was hard to judge her acting abilities based on that (given how strange the material was). Her role in Supergirl was minor, so again, it was tough to tell what her range actually was. Given the right material, there’s a chance she could actually be a serviceable talent in the industry.
