Anyone remember a while back when writer/director Kevin Smith had a mystery project going on? We at LRM as well as folks around the movie news world speculated what it could be, with many of us hoping it would be something involving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Well, we now know exactly what the project was, and if you ask me, it was even better than Smith trying his han at a Marvel superhero movie. The project was going to be based off a series of novels called Kingdom Keepers. In case you’re not familiar with the series (I had never heard of them) they tell the story of a group of teens who by day work as employees at Disney theme parks, but at night they do battle against Disney villains, keeping them from taking over the parks, the company, and even the world.

That was a blast to write 2 years ago. It was planned as one of the first shows to launch on what would become @disneyplus. Then a new exec was put in charge of the app and he killed KK. This sounds as if it could have been awesome, and it’s a real bummer it was scrapped. The setting and premise are brilliant if you ask me, and while Smith may not seem like the right person to bring this idea to the screen, I think that’s exactly what makes him a great choice. This show had so man possibilities with the number of villains in the Disney portfolio. We can only hope that Disney will have a change of heart and give this show another chance.
