Out on HBO Max today is the feature film, Kimi. This original thriller comes from the director that also helmed the Oceans franchise as well as films like Traffic, Steven Soderbergh. The leading actress for the film is Zoë Kravitz who is about to make a huge splash next month with Warner Bros. Pictures, The Batman.
We are currently living in a world that is slowly being drowned by devices that are able to listen to us. With devices like Alexa, Siri, and Google to name a few, it’s hard to know when we are truly alone. Have you ever had the feeling that an ad has popped up right as you were talking about it? It’s probably not a coincidence. So if these devices are always listening, is there a chance that maybe it’s listened into something sinister?
Enter Kimi. In this film, we meet Angela Childs, played by Kravitz. She has some past trauma that has made her unwilling to leave her home in Seattle. Luckily, her job only requires her to sit in front of her computer screen. She works as a voice-stream interpreter for The Amygdala Corporation that has a virtual Alexa-like virtual assistant called, Kimi. In one of those recordings, she notices something strange. She thinks that she has listened to a murder. When she confronts Amygdala, she quickly learns that she may have stumbled upon something much bigger.
