Kinberg And Miller Talking To Marvel About SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL? X-MEN/AVENGERS?!

Talk about a fanboy wet dream!

Producer Simon Kinberg, who has close ties to both 20th Century Fox and Disney, and director Tim Miller (DEADPOOL) just dropped a few nuggets that are sure to send fans into a frenzy.

During interviews meant to discuss the home release of DEADPOOL, the duo was asked about the idea of crossing over their Fox Marvel titles with Disney’s Marvel titles- namely SPIDER-MAN and DEADPOOL. Mind you, Marvel Studios doesn’t even have full ownership of Spider-Man, as he’s mainly on-loan to them from Sony, but that didn’t stop them from declaring some of their wishful thinking.

Simon and I have been trying to build bridges,” said Miller of trying to get Spidey and Deadpool into a movie together. He even revealed that there’s an easter egg in DEADPOOL where you can spot a pizza shop called Feige’s Famous Pizza. He says he did that as a lighthearted jab at trying to “bring these worlds together.

Kinberg was next to chime in on the epic crossover- which has a ton of precedent in the comic books, since Spider-Man and Deadpool have plenty of history together. “I would love to see it. Both of us are close with [Marvel’s] Kevin [Feige] and have a profound amount of respect for what he does,” he revealed. “And it would be fun to all team up one day, somehow, together, if that could work.”

“[…]I would love to, someday, in part, heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers,” Miller added. “I think we all would,” Kinberg continued. “And I think there’s so much crossover in the comic it would be neat to see those characters one day share a movie.

The producer does have some history dealing with pies in the sky. It wasn’t so long ago that Fox had seemingly slammed the door on making a DEADPOOL movie, and it was Kinberg who went to bat for the film- a rated-R flick about a somewhat obscure character. So he knows how to fight for good ideas, and he’s definitely got the connections. Still, he admits, “I just don’t know if it would be possible.

I recall that when Kinberg chatted with us on the LOS FANBOYS Podcast in February, I was taken aback by how chummy the relationship between Fox and Marvel Studios was. He told us that they speak all the time; That Marvel is very supportive and helpful; And that Feige called him to congratulate him for DEADPOOL. So it really seems that the only real challenge in merging these worlds is red tape. There doesn’t seem to be any real feud between Marvel Studios, Fox, and Sony. It’s all just a matter of working out the right deals and getting the stars to align.

What struck me the most about this chatter about such an unlikely situation, was Miller’s line about how they’ve “been trying to build bridges.” That paints a picture of something far more active than I’d imagined. Makes it sound like something that’s really being discussed by people who actually have the ability to make these movies. That’s pretty cool.

What do you think? If they could find a way to merge these worlds would you want to see an epic SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL team-up? How about Bryan Singer’s X-MEN fighting alongside THE AVENGERS? Discuss!
