Looks like there is yet another comic book series that will be developed into a film. In this case, thanks to THR we are talking about Skybound Entertainment’s Birthright.
The comic book series is written by Joshua Williamson, the current writer on DC Comic’s The Flash, with artwork by Andrei Bressan. The book is about a family that suffers a tragedy when their young son Mikey disappears into a forest while playing catch with his father. After an agonizing year that has split the family apart, they get a call from investigators claiming that they might have found their son.
The only problem is that they are reunited not with their child, but a full grown adult. Who claims that he had been on another world named Terrenos where he had been the chosen one to defeat the God King Lore. This springboards the family on a fantastical quest to figure out what happened to their son.
Skybound Entertainment is Robert Kirkman’s entertainment company that has a deal with Universal Studios. Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, who wrote the Despicable Me films, will be working with Kirkman to write the film. Kirkman will also produce alongside David Alpert, Bryan Furst, Sean Furst and Jeb Brody.
Birthright is the third project from Skybound that is being developed by Universal Studios. The other titles are Invincible and Kill The Minotaur.
This will be an interesting project to follow as both Paul and Daurio have a reputation for family-friendly films that include Horton Hears a Who and The Secret Life of Pets. This gives me the notion that this is going to be aimed more at a younger audience.
