After previously sounding uninterested actor Kit Harington now seems more open to a Jon Snow sequel to Game of Thrones. Harington who was cast in Harry Potter Season 2 as Gilderoy Lockhart recently appeared on Happy Sad Confused. Transcript below courtesy of THR.
Harington was involved at one point in a pitch for a show called Snow which would follow Jon after the events of Game of Thrones. However, the show didn’t get picked up and Harington previously said the idea wasn’t good enough adding that he was now quite happy to not go back to Westeros.
Well, it seems as though something has changed and I’ll tell you my thoughts on what below.
“We developed it two years or so,” Harington said. “I still think there’s a world in which something could work. I wouldn’t have gone into it in the first place if I didn’t. But I was very insistent at the start — as was HBO and George R.R. Martin — of like: ‘If we don’t find the right thing, let’s not do it. It’s much better if we don’t.’ After a little while of of thinking about it — it kind of was me — [I said], ‘This isn’t quite the right [story].’”
“[But] now I’ve gone and done all these other things and now I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life.”

I’m being cynical here, but I’d guess the reason Harington is keen to go back to Westeros now is his career has not hit the heights the industry expected. Everyone expected Harington to become a major star after Thrones and when he joined the MCU it looked like he was about to become future Avenger. Eternals was a flop and Harington has since sought help for alcohol related issues and frankly his career stalled.
Even Harry Potter was a stroke of good fortune as Nicholas Hoult was initially cast as Lockhart despite Harington voicing the role in the full cast audio. But what about next year? Lockhart appears in one book and likely will only show up one more time rin the TV series later on. So he could be thinking how going back to having regular lead star work as Jon Snow might be mor attractive than it once was?
Cynical, yes, but I said the same thing when we ran the story above in the related section. Though that story is far more understandable in that he is reluctant to voice Jon again for audiobooks. At least I am consistent in my cynicism though. It was not that long ago there was a rumor the show may get revived and combined with a mooted Arya sequel series. Whether it will ever happen or not, who knows?
