Here’s my review of Lanterns S1E06 and this one jumps into a new story with a changed John Stewart. Folks, this is Spoiler Free for Episode 6, but I will assume you have been watching along at least. We kinda know where we are going this week as we’ve seen the beginning of the 2026 set story in previous episodes. John is called by Kerry to see the dead body of Hal who has been shot in the head. 

In a way though, whilst this is the same overall story, it really does feel like a new chapter. There is a weight to the decade that has passed, best represented in Aaron Pierre’s portrayal of John. This new man is not the John of previous episodes and no wonder after the events of last week. 

In some ways he seems angrier, but more fully realised. No longer just the machine his parents made him to be, we really get to see Pierre’s star potential in this role going forward. Oh and we still get some more of the John and Hal dynamic, showing how the situation has changed before said death of Hal.

I’m sure fans can already start to see where this may be going both now and in the future if Season 2 gets the green light. The groundworks for what is happening terrestrially seems to have been laid already and there are extra-terrestrial events that may hint at the future. 

Episode 6 is not an action packed episode. I think there’s one piece of ‘action’ I can recall and the rest is mostly filling in the audience (and John) about what has been happening the last ten years since the events of last week. Yet, for me, the writing, the acting and and atmosphere are just perfect and this ended up being one of my favourite episodes of the season, mostly due to Aaron Pierre. 

I give no spoilers to say that I’m still not sure if Hal is really dead or not? That mystery has only just begun, but whatever the answer, I know one thing. Audiences will want to see more of Stewart and Jordan together because they have chemistry. I think there’s ways they can do this whatever direction the plot takes. Though, perhaps that’s something we can discuss more when we get to the Season Finale which I will probably do a full spoilers review for.

GRADE: A

Aaron Pierre makes you believe a decade has passed and his character has matured as a new mystery begins, who killed Hal Jordan. Another great episode which begins to develop the hero that John Stewart will surely become in this DCU. Still so much to come in the remaining two episodes and I can’t wait.
