Kit Harrington Teases Dane Whitman In Eternals Could Be Tip Of The Iceberg

In a recent interview with Total Film, Kit Harrington teases Dane Whitman in Eternals could just be the tip of the iceberg for the character. Of course, most Marvel fans will already be aware that Dane Whitman is usually better known as Black Knight, and has been an Avenger many times. However Harrington says that nothing is set in stone. Whitman may have potential to be a big player in the MCU, but Harrington isn’t getting carried away.

“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not,” he says. “I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”

Harrington also gave a little more information about who Whitman is in Eternals.

As for Dane himself, Harington sums him up as “the human character of the story. He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the Natural History Museum in London. But he’s not an Eternal – that’s the main takeaway!”

And what about that rumored love triangle between Whitman, Sersi and Ikaris, played by his Game of Thrones brother Richard Madden?

“I think there’s been a few things said about that in the press,” he adds. “I wouldn’t say that a lot of it is accurate. But he has a connection with Sersi, as does Richard’s character.”

I guess Marvel likes to take a look at audience reactions before committing to multi picture deals at times. In this instance it would be very easy for Marvel to sideline Whitman if they don’t want to go that way in the future. However one would think, casting Harrington, and getting him on board, probably involved promises of more appearances to come. Like all fans, we would guess at some point Whitman will become Black Knight and from that point a new Marvel hero.
