Kyra Elise Gardner On Growing Up With A 3-Foot Killer In Living With Chucky | Exclusive

Living with Chucky

When it comes to the horror slasher icons from the late 70s and 80s only a few come to mind. Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy Kueger, and Chucky. That last one, Chucky is a “little” different than the rest being a doll possessed by a vicious serial killer. Audiences were first introduced to him in 1988’s horror classic, ‘Child’s Play’. Since then the slasher has had several sequels and even a television series.

While the names in front of the camera have become synonymous with the franchise, many others behind the scenes have brought Chucky to life for a long time. For example, legendary special effects artist, Tony Gardner. He had a daughter named Kyra and that is where the Screambox documentary, ‘Living With Chucky’ comes in.

With Kyra’s dad working in special effects, blood and guts became normal to her at a young age. Chucky, was around so much that he ended up feeling like a sibling to her. Now as an adult and a filmmaker, she made ‘Living With Chucky’ not only to get a look at the franchise from the perspective of those who were there from the beginning but also to explore the impact that it had on her family.
