While the last couple episodic entries in the Star Wars franchise have had the main three heroes from the original trilogy play big roles, there has been one fan-favorite character missing. That’s right, I’m talking about Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy.

Quite famously, it was revealed by Johnson that there were originally plans to have Lando in his own Star Wars: The Last Jedi film, taking on the role that DJ (played by the great Benicio del Toro) took on. However, when all said and done, Johnson felt that this would be a disservice to the character, especially since DJ ends up betraying Finn and Rose and turning them in to the First Order. With fans being so upset about how Luke was handled, I can imagine Lando doing that would bring a similar hate.

But that’s not to say Lando can never show up. In fact, there are now rumors that point to him showing up in the next film. Fantha Tracks is reporting that an anonymous source of the site has stated that Lando will indeed be returning.

Given that the character was so buzzed about in the recently-released Solo: A Star Wars Story, and that Episode IX will be closing the books on the previous generation of heroes (presumably), seeing Lando is something we’re all kind of expecting. In fact, I would have been surprised if there were no plans to do so.
