After an initial report, the Lanterns series writing team has been confirmed by DCU’s James Gunn. Lanterns, which will very clearly follow Green Lanterns is a Max series in development for the new DCU led by James Gunn. Here is what Gunn had to say on Instagram.

“Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception)”

That is a decent writing team, I have to say. Though, it is worth noting that in his youth Gunn was not a fan of Lindelof and had a go at the creative on social media for the ending of LOST. I always felt like anyone who hated that end, didn’t quite understand what was actually happening. Like, they were not all dead, a common misconception from some viewers. However, that was also a long time ago, before Gunn was in the industry in the major way he is now.

I look at Watchmen for example, written by Lindelof, and it was fantastic.

So far there is no hint about what the story may entail, or who will be playing any of the roles. One may assume that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner may show up, and he’s already in Superman. But really outside of that assumption we know nothing.

There’s also no timeline yet for when production might begin or when we are likely to see Lanterns appear on Max. Though, I assume we could be looking at filming next year with a release later that year or early 26′. That’s just a guess though.

What do you think of this news as the Lanterns series writing team has been confirmed by DCU’s James Gunn? Thoughts below as always.
