Today’s Barside Buzz is a piece on Kathleen Kennedy’s impending Lucasfilm exit, including the priorities for the new team and job offers for Kennedy. The information comes from Jeff Sneider on his latest The Insneider newsletter. This itself comes on the heels of the news/rumor that Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan will co-lead Lucasfilm once Kennedy exits, which is weeks away. This news came from Puck‘s Matthew Belloni and like Sneider, these guys are ex-trade with very good Hollywood sources.
Sneider merely adds to Belloni’s story with a few details of his own. I won’t copy his full newsletter here, because the man has to make a buck. However, here are a couple of key points I picked out.
Sneider thinks the official announcement about Kennedy’s exit and replacements could come as early as next week. Belloni had said Kennedy had a big interview lined up following her impending exit and Sneider also adds Kennedy has had job offers to produce movies.
I’ll quote this next part exactly,
“Naturally, Filoni and Brennan’s first order of business will be getting the next Star Wars movie up and running, and that won’t be a standalone adventure like Shawn Levy’s Starfighter. I expect they’ll fast track whatever Simon Kinberg is cooking up over there — Episode X, if you will.”

It’s been suggested/rumored before that Kinberg’s trilogy will effectively be Episode X. I’m not sure how possible it is to fast track Kinberg’s trilogy. I also still have my reservations about trusting the future of Star Wars to Simon Kinberg. I do like it being one vision across the trilogy this time. Though I hope it’s three different directors working off Kinberg’s vision/script and that one of them is not Kinberg himself.
However, we do also have Filoni’s own movie, which I can’t see him cancelling on himself, plus there are other in development that started under Kennedy. Whether they ever see the light of day, who knows?
Not a massive addition, but I think these two have been pretty clued in with Lucasfilm gossip recently.
What do you think of the latest rumors around Kathleen Kennedy’s exit. What for you will be the new team’s priorities and where could you see Kennedy’s destination? Thoughts below.
