Star Wars: Starfighter Has A Lightsaber Fight In Water And Tom Cruise Helped Film It

Star Wars: Starfighter director Shawn Levy reveals the film has a Lightsaber fight in water, oh, and Tom Cruise helped to film it. Levy recently spoke with NY Times about his career, including quite a bit about Stranger Things 5 of which Levy was an executive producer.

However, Levy also had some information about Star Wars: Starfighter which he only recently wrapped filming. The article is paywalled, but here’s the part relevant to Starfighter.

‘Tom Cruise was up to his ankles in mud and pond water. He wore a look of great concentration as he stooped over a digital camera, trying to frame the perfect shot.’

‘Shawn Levy glanced around in slight disbelief. Partly it was that he was on the set of his very own “Star Wars” movie, “Star Wars: Starfighter,” with Ryan Gosling. And partly it was the steady stream of A-list visitors. “Last week Steven Spielberg was here. And now Tom Cruise is wielding a camera, ruining his very nice shoes.”’

‘It was a brisk morning in November and Cruise had dropped by from nearby London, landing his helicopter on set as the crew piped in the “Mission: Impossible” theme over the loudspeakers. Cruise just wanted to watch, he told them, but Levy, setting up a scene involving a lightsaber duel in the water, suggested the star jump on one of the cameras. He’d meant it as a joke. But there was Cruise, wading into the muddy pond, holding the camera like a pro.’

‘“Now when you see the movie,” Levy said — it’s scheduled for 2027 — “you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?”’

That’s definitely more revealing than anything else we have had officially. There has to be Force users in the film if there’s a Lightsaber fight. In fact, it would suggest that we must have a hero and a villain fighting. Does that make Gosling a Jedi, or a Force user? Or is it the kid as was first rumored?

Given this movie is set only around 5-10 years post-TROS the only Force user we know of that has a Lightsaber is Rey Skywalker. So, how do we have a villain and a hero fighting with Lightsaber’s less than a decade after TROS? I guess we will find out.

As for the Tom Cruise angle, let’s face it, it’s a story that you’ll click on and read and then forget about it forever more. The film will either rejuvenate the franchise or cement it further into the grave Disney has dug for it.

What do you think of Star Wars: Starfighter having a Lightsaber fight in water? As always, leave any thoughts below.
