Lars Mikkelsen On Changes He Is Making To Thrawn In Ahsoka

In a recent interview Lars Mikkelsen talks changes he is making to Thrawn in Ahsoka. As you know, Mikkelsen who voiced Thrawn on Rebels, will now play the role in live-action within the Ahsoka series. Speaking with Empire Magazine as part of their Ahsoka coverage this month, Mikkelsen says he had to make changes for the differences in medium.

“I’m not losing the voice, but I am tweaking it into live-action. When you do an animated character, there’s a whole melodious approach. When you’re there as a real person, that would be just slightly too much.”

The veteran actor then went on to detail what he enjoys about Thrawn as a character.

“I love the way he rises through the Empire, and the way he carries himself in that environment to become somebody. And then of course, how can you not like a very clever villain? Thrawn takes the time to understand his opponent’s culture, and what they’re about. It’s lovely to be playing that.”

Those are definitely some of Thrawn’s most defining traits. Thrawn is a complicated villain, far ore complicated than the likes of Palpatine who just wants to be evil and rule everyone with an iron fist.

For me, the best version of Thrawn so far is still the original one from the Heir to the Empire book. However, I enjoyed Thrawn on Rebels and I’m very please Mikkelsen is the one continuing the role.

We have no official release date for Ahsoka. However we know it is supposed to release in August and we’ve heard a rumored date of August 31st. I must say I think I’m more looking forward to this one than any big summer movies coming this year. I can’t say if Ahsoka will be good, but I always have hope with any Star Wars and the trailers have impressed me so far (outside some unfinished CGI work).

I will be putting out written reviews of each episode as I always do with Star Wars TV series. Additionally, Kyle and I will be discussing it weekly on The Cantina Reviews as well. Click this Link if you want to see/hear Kyle and I discuss what we liked or didn’t about Star Wars: Visions 2.
