Latest Marvel/Sony Spider-Man Rumor Leaves Us Confused | Barside Buzz

According to a new Spider-Man rumor, Marvel had big plans for the Venom symbiote in the MCU, until Sony launched the Venom franchise.

Today I am sharing a new Marvel/Sony Spider-Man rumor from the folks over at That Hashtag Show. However, I gotta be honest and say the report makes very little sense to me. Though, you can be the judge of that yourselves. We currently don’t know what happens after Spider-Man: No Way Home with Sony and Marvel Studios. Reports have rumored that both parties are pretty happy with the current arrangement and even Tom Holland has said he thinks all will be good.

Then, the fly in the ointment as it were, is what the Hell Sony are doing with their own Universe? It’s really unclear whether the Sony VenomVerse and the MCU are going to connect. Venom itself has no real connections, but the upcoming Morbius, that’s a very different story. So what exactly is it that the outlet has reported? I’ve quoted below.

The Rumor

Marvel/Sony Spider-Man rumor

We have exclusively learned that Sony will continue making their SCEU films, with Marvel continuing with Spider-Man, as well. That means splitting the franchise in two.

What does that even mean? Right now we do have a split set of franchises, with the VenomVerse and the MCU not mixing, so far. However with Adrian Toomes in Morbius and the Spider-Man imagery, I assumed that was all about to change. So does that mean Sony’s Spider-Man Universe having an absence of Spider-Men? According to the outlet, no.

From what I’ve heard from reliable sources, Marvel is looking to create two Spider-Man franchises. One will continue Peter Parker’s story, this time with him in university. The other will focus on Miles Morales. It’s said that Marvel is keen to use Miles in their upcoming Young Avengers project, and see a lot of value in him.

From what I’ve heard from my sources, No Way Home is going to provide us a much clearer roadmap for Spider-Man in the MCU. I’ve also heard reports that Spider-Man 4 will film back to back with No Way Home. (We have yet to corroborate this, though, and will keep digging to get more information.) Either way, Marvel is already looking for writers and directors for these two franchises. Peter and Miles have two completely different stories. They want writers and directors who can bring a distinct voice to each character.

My Brain Hurts

Ok, so wait, that means both Peter Parker and Mile Morales would be in the MCU? Surely that makes no sense? Sony would allow Marvel Studios to use both Tom Holland and Miles, whilst they have no Spider-Man? I have a hard time buying that. If the report said that Tom Holland would stay in the MCU, and Miles Morales would become Sony’s Spider-Man, then I could see it. Or, Holland becoming Sony’s Spider-Man, and Miles Morales filling the role on the MCU, either would be a reasonable compromise to make.

However, Tom Holland’s contract is up after No Way Home. Surely that puts Holland in a position where he can push for his character to remain in the MCU? Whereas, a new actor with no MCU baggage hired by Sony to play Miles for 4-5 movies, that’s an easy win for Sony. Though maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part? I just want to see Holland’s Spider-Man controlled by Marvel Studios for a long time to come. If Watts is moving on to Fantastic Four, then what about a Peter Parker college era trilogy from a new director? Again, as long as it’s controlled by Marvel Studios I’m in. Selfishly, I can therefore choose to ignore Sony’s Mile Morales franchise if the quality is not up to scratch.

Just because I want something to happen however, doesn’t make it so. I also hoped that perhaps Sony could push ahead with Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire as their Spider-Man if the No Way Home casting rumors are true. I think Maguire would be crazily expensive and therefore not feasible, but Garfield?

That Hashtag Show is a great source of news when they have a star or a creative on their show. I do not have much experience with them as a source for scoops though. I just don’t like the way this entire report is worded, because it’s vague and annoyingly contradictory in some ways. So I will let you decide what you think of this latest Marvel/Sony Spider-Man rumor? As always, leave any thoughts below if you can.
