It’s The Legend of Zelda‘s 35th Anniversary!
With all the fanfare, remakes, collections and the like Nintendo released to celebrate Mario’s Anniversary last year, surely Zelda fans are in for great content too! Right? After all, this is the first Nintendo Direct in a while! The first since September 4, 2019, in fact!
That’s a big fat, “No!”
I’ll start by throwing you into the deep end.
Expecting Breath of the Wild 2 news? Well, screw you!
Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild 1 & 2 director Eiji Aounuma says we’ll get news… later this year:
We apologize. Development is proceeding smoothly, and we should be able to bring you some new information this year. For now, we’ll have to ask you to wait just a bit longer.
Nothing new there, the only videogames you have to wait longer on than The Legend of Zelda is anything from Blizzard. Quality takes time, mind you.

Alright, no Breath of the Wild 2. But surely, Nintendo will follow their Mario model and give us a Zelda 3D All Stars collection. Maybe skip Majora’s Mask but give the big three – Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess? Then maybe we’ll see Skyward Sword as it’s own HD release like Super Marion 3D World?
NOPE!
All we get as Zelda fans is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. WTF Nintendo! Why do you hate me?
The two minor positives from this Zelda snubbing episode of Nintendo Direct? An expansion pass to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and some cool looking Joycons inspired by Link’s sword and shield.
Though I’m sure I’ll get both of those this year, it does seem that Nintendo is showing little love for its most highly acclaimed franchise.
