Life After The CW: Crowd-Funded Amell Film Is Heading To Theaters

There is life after the CW for Stephen and Robbie Amell.  Most will know them from the CW’s Arrowverse as the man under the hood himself, Green Arrow (Stephen), and the original Firestorm (Robbie).  Now that both of their roles will be concluded, they are moving on to their next major work which began as a crowd-funded sci-fi film, Code 8. The cousins are not only the executive producers, but co-stars as well. The film was picked up by Vertical Entertainment, was written by Chris Pare and directed by Jeff Chan.

Deadline provided a plot synopsis for the film:

“Code 8, written by Chris Pare, is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with some type of supernatural ability, but instead of being superheroes, they are heavily policed and live in poverty. Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) is a powerful young “electric” struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s medical treatment. To earn money, he joins a lucrative criminal world led by Garrett (Stephen Amell), who teaches him how to use his powers to pull off a series of increasingly dangerous crimes. Sung Kang (Fast & Furious) and Greg Bryk (Ad Astra) also star.”

The Amells began a funding bid with Indiegogo back in 2016 with the hops of raising $200,000.  Well, they did alright by raising $2.4 million through 27,000 funders.

Deadline then reported Amell and Chan’s response to the overwhelming success of their funding:

“We took a grassroots approach to getting this film off the ground and we’re beyond thrilled to
unveil it alongside our partners at Vertical. This has been a labor of love for us and the tens of thousands of supporters who have been there since the start of this journey.”

Do you think the Amells’ film will be any good?  I enjoy both of them as actors, but I am curious to see what all the film entails, especially with people having supernatural abilities and the budget they have, but with it being a short film it could definitely work.  Also, the idea of teaching someone how to use their powers…very Arrowverse, am I right? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
