Lightsaber Dueling Now A Real Sport In France

Ever since fans seen the first ever lightsaber duel in 1977’s A New Hope, they’ve have imitated the art of dueling. Well now, one country, namely France has made the sport of lightsaber dueling legitimate.

Apparently the activity is quite the workout, and that’s one reason France chose it to be legitimzed as a sport. Serge Aubailly, federation secretary general had the following to say about the sport.

“With young people today, it’s a real public health issue. They don’t do any sport and only exercise with their thumbs. It’s becoming difficult to (persuade them to) do a sport that has no connection with getting out of the sofa and playing with one’s thumbs. That is why we are trying to create a bond between our discipline and modern technologies, so participating in a sport feels natural.”

It almost seems as if Disney is trying to diminish the importance of the Jedi, Sith, and lightsabers within the Star Wars universe, as the two most recently accounced television series, are both led by characters who do not wield the famed “lasersword”.

I long for the day that Star Wars, virtual reality, and gaming consoles all crossover and we have a kickass dueling game
