Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Series Coming From Netflix

See you space cowboy.

In the late 1990s, animation director Shinichiro Watanabe created Cowboy Bebop, an anime that would be a seminal work in anime history. A few years later, that anime reached shores and broadcast on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, a programming block that became a go-to place for mature animation. With its morally-gray characters, high-flying space adventures, and smooth jazz soundtrack, it quickly became the favorites of many fans, cementing its place as a cult favorite.

For years, talk spread about a potential live-action series or live-action film, and at one point, even Keanu Reeves was reportedly involved as a potential contender to play the role of the lead character, Spike Spiegel. Of course, like many other adaptations that quickly withered and died, this one eventually petered out into nothingness, and has seemingly continued to wallow in development hell.

Then, in the middle of last year, it was reported that Tomorrow Studios would be developing a live-action series. Now, it looks like Netflix has officially given a 10-episode series order for that very show, Deadline reports.

The show will be written and executive produced by Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost, and will finally realize the likes of Spike, Jet, Faye, and Ed into the real world. The four of them pilot the titular Bebop ship, which they use to hunt down dangerous criminals of the underworld.
