It had been reported that shortly after Hulu passed up on the pilot for Locke & Key, the adaptation of the Joe Hill/Gabriel Rodriguez comic book series, Netflix had considered taking over the production of the series. Now, as reported by Deadline, Locke & Key is officially the property of Netflix, Inc. The streaming service has closed the deal with IDW Entertainment for a 10-episode run of the show, but with a bit of a change.
Netflix will not be running with the original pilot penned by source material writer Joe Hill. Instead, they will be redeveloping the scripts and re-casting the series. Joining the creative team alongside Hill and Carlton Cuse (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Lost) will be writer/producers Aron Eli Coleite (Heroes) and Meredith Averill (The Good Wife). Hill and Coleite will be writing the new pilot while Cuse and Averill will serve as showrunners for the series. While original pilot director Andy Muschietti (It) will not be able to direct the new pilot, he will still be serving as executive producer on the series along with Cuse, Barbara Muschietti, Lindsey Springer, Ted Adams, David Ozer, David Albert and Rick Jacobs.
