Logan fans who were hoping to see more of Laura Kinney (aka X-23) may get exactly what they wished for. Speaking with THR about the success of Logan, director James Mangold revealed that he was currently working on a script that would center on the young mutant, played by Dafne Keen.

Sadly, there were no other details, and at this point, he stated that they were just working on the script, so it may very well be another couple years before something else materializes out of this. Given the age of the star, it wouldn’t be out of the question for it to take place a few years after Logan, with her off with the other mutants (or even on her own).

Interestingly enough, when looking at the possibility of an X-23 film actually happening, he points to the success of Wonder Woman as a possible door-opener for Laura Kinney.

“Patty’s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”

But if you were hoping to see Jackman return as Wolverine in some form, that ain’t happening. In fact, he even ruled out the possibility of producing, saying:

“No, I won’t be a producer on a Laura sequel. But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 pm to watch it though. She is just phenomenal.”
