As kids, if one of our loved ones was in trouble, what lengths would we go to, to make sure they were ok? What is interesting is that thanks to innocence and imagination, kids may even offer up wild ideas that involve mystical elements and magic that we would never accept as adults. This is because as adults, we know that that kind of solution is not real. But as kids, anything is possible.
RLJE Films has a new film out called, The Water Man. This features the directorial debut of David Oyelowo. Based on a story written by first-time feature screenwriter Emma Needell. Oprah Winfrey serves as Executive Producer.
Here is the synopsis for The Water Man:
Gunner (Chavis) sets out on a quest to save his ill mother (Dawson) by searching for a mythic figure who possesses the secret to immortality, the Water Man. After enlisting the help of a mysterious local girl, Jo (Miller), they journey together into the remote Wild Horse forest — but the deeper they venture, the stranger and more dangerous the forest becomes. Their only hope for rescue is Gunner’s father (Oyelowo), who will stop at nothing to find them and in the process will discover who his son really is.
The Water Man is currently rated as “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s star Lonnie Chavis does a great job at conveying emotion and taking us on an imaginative journey as he searches for a solution to his mom’s illness. While in some instances of the film it feels a little dragged out, overall I enjoyed the pacing of the film as I was curious as to the mystery behind the elusive Water Man. I enjoyed seeing both Gunner and Joe overcome adversaries, and risk their lives for the hope of a better tomorrow.
