Looks Like The Lord Of The Rings Season 1 Will Be 8 Episodes Long

Amazon's Lord of the Rings show leaves New Zealand for Britain in Season 2

It’s looking like The Lord of the Rings Season 1 will be 8 episodes long. The first season of the Amazon show has been filming in New Zealand and continues to do so. No hints had been given as to how many episodes we might see per season. Six, eight, more? Well, some new details have emerged that could indicate an 8 episode Season 1. Check out the social media post from Tolkien News below

As you can see, it appears the art department and various others are listed as working on eight episodes. Now, IMDB is not a smoking gun, they never have been and regularly have out of date information. IMDB can also use a bit of guess work on their data from time to time. As a result, I am still treating this one as a rumor. However, it has to be said, that I also think this is correct. Me believing this information is correct, does not make it so, so don’t take this is a solid confirmation, yet.

The Lord of the Rings show from Amazon will deal with a period thousands of years prior to the the movies. Whilst we do not know exactly what the plot will be, we can make some guesses. It seems like the forging of the Rings of Power, subsequent betrayal of Sauron and the war that followed will be covered. We also know that the show will feature the land of Numenor. Numenor is the land of Aragorn’s ancestors, men who were vastly superior to other mortals. At times Numenor was a mortal enemy of Sauron, and a friend to all Elves, however things change. Since it’s tough to know what period of an Age lasting 3,441 years the Amazon show is covering, it’s tricky to peg Numenor’s role in this show.

I do know I’m helluva hyped about what we might see in this show. In my opinion the Second Age of Tolkien’s mythology is a darker period far more suited to a long form TV series. I can’t wait to see the events I already know a little of played out.

If this turns out to be true, are you happy The Lord of the Rings Season 1 will be 8 episodes long? Leave your thoughts below.
