LRM EXCLUSIVE – Alita: Battle Angel – How Rosa Salazar Found Out About The Big Eyes

LRMOnline’s very own Gig Patta conducted an exclusive interview with Alita Battle Angel star actress, Rosa Salazar. Alita Battle Angel follows the story of Alita, a female cyborg’s quest through a cyberpunk landscape to find answers to a past she cannot remember. The film is due to be released this Valentine’s Day 2019.

Ever since the first trailer was released on July 23, 2018, I was intrigued by the movies use of CGI characters. One of the main things that stood out to me was Alita’s eyes. They were huge. I wasn’t alone in my thinking. So, when Gig had the chance to interview the star of Alita Battle Angel, he asked how the character’s big eyes were revealed to her by director Robert Rodriguez.

To which Salazar responded:

“The casting process was about three months long. So, I auditioned. And then I didn’t hear anything for a couple weeks and then they said Robert wants to meet with you.”

The actress goes on to recount meeting him. Rodriguez was hesitant at first, and even said he wasn’t really supposed to show her anything, but we went on to open “up a folder and there was concept art. Very early concept art of Alita. And she had my face.”

Salazar also jokingly added, “I was like if I don’t get this role you’re not allowed to use my face. And we had a good laugh but what I saw in that early concept art was what we achieved towards the end of the film.”

The theatrical release for Alita Battle Angel is just a few days away. Sin City’s Robert Rodriguez helms the pic with Avatar’s James Cameron producing. The film is based on the Japanese cyberpunk manga created by Yukito Kishiro.
