Pixar’s Luca is a wondrous tale about friendships despite being different. Quite literally.
In this newest tale from Pixar, the animated movie tells a fish out of water story of sea monsters befriending a young girl in an Italian town and enrolling themselves into a race to win an ultimate prize of a Vespa.
The story is entirely relatable as it fosters the ideas of friendship, diversity, and even cheering for the underdogs.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s Luca is a coming-of-age story about a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer. Luca shares his amazing adventures with his friend Alberto, but their fun is threatened by a deeply held secret: They’re sea monsters from a world below the water’s surface.

The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay as Luca Paguro, Jack Dylan Grazer as Alberto Scorfano, and Emma Berman as Giulia Marcovaldo. Also, Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan lend their voices as the parents of Luca.
Enrico Casarose directed the animated film from the story by Casarosa, Jesse Andrews, and Simon Stephenson.
In this exclusive featurette, the crew discusses the story of these sea monsters not passing as humans in the dry land world. The characters develop a friendship by bonding as underdogs, outsiders, and weirdoes. In this world, the creatures learn to eat pesto pasta thanks to Giulia, which they never had before. Also, in the featurette, it discusses Giulia’s “too much” on oversharing.
The short featurette has interviews with director Enrico Casaroso, voice actress Emma Berman and Maya Rudolph, story lead McKenna Harris, and producer Andrea Warren.
Luca arrives tomorrow onto Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
