Luke Cage’s Mike Colter and Marvel TV Boss Talk Defenders 2

Defenders Shows Will Get 4K On Disney+ Eventually Confirms Disney

What started at Netflix with Marvel Television’s Daredevil and continuing with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist ended up coming together in The Defenders. But with that series not doing as well as the individual hero shows, there are a lot of doubts that Marvel Television and or Netflix have any plans for another season.

Mike Colter who plays Luke Cage in his self-titled series appeared last weekend at Baltimore Comic Con. During a panel he was asked about the chances of there being a Defenders 2. “That crowd wasn’t loud enough for Defenders 2, sorry,” Colter said, but after the crowd cheered louder he said, “Alright, alright, maybe we can do something.”

It seems like Colter feels the same way the folks at Netflix and Marvel Television feel, that The Defenders did not due as well as they thought it should being that it had all the heroes for the previous shows. But Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb talked to comicbook.com about the rumor that they are not making another season of The Defenders.

“All we’ve ever said is that there are no plans right now [to do more]. It doesn’t mean that it’s off the table. And it doesn’t mean that it even has to be with the original characters that were in the first Defenders,” Loeb said. During the conversation Loeb teased more characters in the series and how a show like The Defenders could have interchangeable characters.

“There are lots of Avengers, and through that, you should be able to ascertain that there may be lots of Defenders. No one at any time referred to them as ‘The Defenders’ — they didn’t wear a little ‘D’ on their belts, and they didn’t go to a building that had a big ‘Defenders’ [sign] in the air. They were four mismatched heroes who were joined by a lot of the other heroes that are in the stories that we do on Netflix, but that was that particular story.”

It will be interesting to see what other characters they could bring into this corner of the Marvel universe. Personally I would really like to see Moon Knight be introduced at some point or She-Hulk.
