What year is it, again? Because it certainly feels like 1999 all over again these last few weeks. The film world has been abuzz about M. Night Shyamalan’s movie Split and, just like his 1999 breakthrough The Sixth Sense, everyone seems to be excited by that film’s big twist and to see what the visionary director is going to do next. Back then, Shyamalan followed up his triumphant hit with Unbreakable, and it seems now like he may be sticking to that same playbook this time around, too.
*SPOILER ALERT!*

If you count yourself among the legion of people who have kept Split in the #1 spot at the box office for the last three weekends, you likely caught the final scene where we discover that the film is set in the same world as Unbreakable. Early yesterday morning, via a tweet to his fans, Shyamalan offered up the status of his next film, and it points in a very distinct direction:
I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can't tell you what it is, but If you've seen #Split…

“I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag,” Shyamalan revealed in his tweet. “I can’t tell you what it is, but If you’ve seen Split…“
This seems to heavily imply that we’re going to get a film that officially embraces the shared world of Split and Unbreakable, with a likely emphasis on Kevin Wendall Crumb (James McAvoy) encountering David Dunn (Bruce Willis), and possibly meeting Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson).
Shyamalan already has an outline, and he knows he’s playing a very hot hand right now, so I would expect that this film is going to get fleshed out and put into production fairly quickly. We shall see!
Are you excited to see Shyamalan get to work on a third film in the Unbreakable universe? What did you think of Split? Sound off!
