Anthony Mackie’s run as Captain America given a time limit by the star. Mackie only just became Captain America within The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and will be getting his own movie. However Mackie speaking with Variety says that there is a limit to how long he can be Captain America.
“I definitely don’t want to be a 55 year old Captain America, so I’ve got a solid six to eight [years] in me.”
That should give plenty of time for Mackie to portray this version of Cap. This is especially true of a character who has been in the MCU since the beginning of Phase 2. Chris Evans played Captain American for less than 10 years, beginning in 2011. Mackie joined the MCU in 2014, and if he’s planning on another 6-8 years that would leave his time in the MCU as far longer than Evans. Though of course, the character of Sam has just gone through a major development, so we need to see where that goes. Ultimately one day Mackie is going to decide enough is enough. Hopefully like they did with Evans, Marvel will create a suitable exit point for Mackie, when the time comes.

I doubt we will end up with a whole new trilogy of Captain America films starring Mackie. However we will at least be getting one Captain America movie and we’d expect Sam to feature in whatever the next Avengers event is. Who knows? But the MCU has a much bigger cast of characters that need to be serviced than it did when Evans and Mackie were starting out. There is also the chance that we could get a sequel to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ show. Though, like many other fans, I hope that would be called Captain America and The White Wolf.
Mackie’s run as Captain America is finite, like many other MCU roles. How long do you want to see Mackie playing Cap for? Leave any thoughts below.
