In a thrilling tribute to the Avengers and the X-Men, renowned artist Mark Brooks will be commemorating their 60th anniversary with a series of captivating CORNER BOX VARIANT COVERS throughout 2023. Embracing the classic comic book tradition of corner boxes in a fresh and innovative manner, Brooks will portray iconic lineups and beloved characters from the rich histories of both superhero teams. Today, fans have the opportunity to get a sneak peek at two remarkable installments that are set to debut in September, gracing the covers of AVENGERS #4 and X-MEN #25.
For this extraordinary duo of variant covers, Brooks focuses on notable roster shakeups from the 1980s, featuring cherished fan-favorite members. AVENGERS #4 CORNER BOX VARIANT COVER will showcase captivating depictions of Sersi and Black Knight, while the X-MEN #25 VARIANT COVER will showcase the dazzling Dazzler and the enigmatic Longshot. These visually stunning covers will also feature enduring characters like Vision, Black Widow, and Magneto, alongside a representation of Kitty Pryde during her classic era as Shadowcat. The timing is perfect as Kitty Pryde is set to reclaim her Shadowcat codename, an exciting development amid the tumultuous events of the FALL OF X, which unfolds in the upcoming issue.
Reflecting on his inspiration for these variant covers, Brooks shared, “There are many reasons why I was attracted to comics as a kid, and the corner box was a big part of it. I knew which issue number it was and who would appear in it. It was a little preview that tantalized the reader. It could be a close-up, a full figure, or a micro-scene. Regardless, it enticed me to pick up the book. That’s why I jokingly started the #LetMarkCornerbox campaign on Twitter, to express my love for the corner box. But it took on a life of its own. When C.B. [Cebulski] told me they wanted to make it a reality, I couldn’t resist. I’ve already penciled over 100 heads, and I won’t stop until Marvel says, ‘Okay, that’s enough’ – LOL!”
