Mark Hamill Reveals The Star Wars Meme That Makes Him Cringe

In a recent podcast appearance director Matthew Vaughn says he would reboot the Star Wars franchise if given the opportunity.

Luke Skywalker is the basis of many, many memes. However, there’s one in particular that Mark Hamill, well, he’s not a fan of it, to say the least. The meme in question is the one that shows his Luke Skywalker character in A New Hope, shortly after Alec Guiness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi gives Luke his father’s lightsaber.

Luke then looks down at the lightsaber putting himself in a prime position to lose much more than an eye. Hamill doesn’t believe this to be a screenshot from the film, as he explains in the tweet below.

Without cheating and going to YouTube,  I can’t say I remember Luke looking down the lightsaber’s hilt in A New Hope. I cold of course be wrong and if I am I’m sure someone will bring that to my attention down in the comment section.

If what Hamill says is true, it does take away from the been ever so slightly, but it’s still a decent meme. Not top tier for sure, but Star Wars memes are an extremely difficult category to make the rotating top. Star Wars is a fantastic source for memes, especially the prequels as of the last few years. They may even hold as much value as memes nowadays as they do films.

What are your thoughts on this? Does Luke look down the hilt of his father’s lightsaber or not? Let us know in the comments down below!
