Mark Ruffalo On What He’d Like To See Next From Hulk In The MCU

Despite some headlines you may have already seen, no, Mark Ruffalo did NOT say Hulk was in Brave New World.

Since taking over from Edward Norton for 2012’s Avengers, Mark Ruffalo has been Bruce Banner/ The Hulk in four MCU movies, the most recent of which was Avengers: Endgame. In Endgame we saw Professor Hulk for the first time, a hybrid of both Hulk and Banner and of course, we saw him taking some serious damage when he used the Infinity Stones to reverse what Thanos had done in Infinity War previously.

So what’s next for the jade giant in the MCU? Though coy, Mark Ruffalo, interviewed alongside Marvel President Kevin Feige by ComicBook.com recently gave some thoughts on here he wants to see Hulk go next after confirming we will “probably” see more of Hulk.

“I’d like to see him hang out with some of the new folks, you know? Maybe be like a guru to some of the younger ones.”

To which Feige added,

“That’s a good idea.”

Now, I have to be honest and say that despite my really liking Avengers: Endgame, I do not want to see Professor Hulk only going forward. It was essential for that story I understand, but I feel like we lose out on the character of Hulk and Banner and just end up with Banner but strong. It doesn’t feel like Hulk and Banner are there, it just feels like Banner has Hulk’s strength now.

For me, we also lose some of the dynamic that makes Hulk so interesting, he is uncontrollable rage, and yet when required, at times that rage can be directed towards a target. I honestly think the MCU is crying out for another solo Hulk movie, one that explores what it means to be both Hulk and Banner, and hopefully by the end, splitting them back up again out of necessity. Maybe have the grey Hulk enter the mix as Hulk with Banner’s brain, as opposed to Banner with Hulk’s strength. Therefore it’s not really a hybrid of both characters at all, and Hulk wants back out.

I do hope the next time we see Hulk is not in She-Hulk, and I also hope we don’t just see Banner as some kind of bit-part player, because Hulk was one of my favorite aspects of all the movies he’s been in so far.

But hey, maybe that’s just me and you want to see professor Hulk from now on? Feel free to be wrong in the usual spot below.
