Marvel and Bethesda announce development of a Blade video game at yesterday’s Game Awards with a reveal trailer. This one came out of nowhere as there had been zero rumors regarding development of this title. Bethesda will work alongside fellow ZeniMax studio Arkane Lyon on the game.

Check out the reveal trailer below.

Whilst no announcement was made to say this is an Xbox exclusive, it would seem likely. After all ZeniMax is now owned by Microsoft. This would also be a potential counter to Sony who already have exclusive rights to Spider-Man and have two hit games that remain exclusive. There is also a Wolverine game in development which will be a PS exclusive.

Maybe Sony and MS could do a deal so that Blade goes on sale for PS5 and Wolverine goes on sale for Xbox? However, whilst I think MS would be up for that, Sony have been very resistant to reducing exclusivity. The game is supposed to be a third person action title with a narrative focus. Which to be fair is exactly what you’d expect. Tearing through hordes of Vampires as the Daywalker? Count me in. As a Game Pass subscriber, I will be on this when it eventually arrives.

As for when that might be? It could be years at this point. All we have is a cinematic, no gameplay, and no indication of how far along the game is.

Dinga Bakaba, Game Director at Arkane Lyon added, “As a kid of mixed origins, I felt a special connection to Blade – a hero with a dual heritage himself. The opportunity to put our spin on this character is a dream of mine and a challenge that our team embraces with a passion. We couldn’t be happier to put players in Blade’s boots, as he becomes the champion of my hometown of Paris, one stake at a time.”
