The latest Barside Buzz is a rumor that Marvel and Sony currently disagree about the direction of Spider-Man 4. The claim comes from Daniel RPK on Patreon and he says there is a disagreement about Spider-Man 4. Sony wants to go big and Kevin Feige reportedly wants it to be more grounded.
Specifically RPK has heard that Sony wants to bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield again and go big. After all it worked last time and made Sony an absolute fortune. No Way Home was the studios most successful movie to date at the box office. Whereas Feige seems more interested in sticking more to some of the rumors we have already heard about Spidey 4. Namely that it will be a street level movie, with Fisk as the big bad behind the scenes, but another main villain for Spidey to fight.
Listen, we can’t say this is 100% correct, or even up to date. The rumors we have heard about this movie do point towards Feige getting his way as opposed to Sony. However, there are no cameras rolling yet, so who knows? RPK also claims that Vincent D’Onofrio is currently in talks to appear in Spider-Man 4. As for the idea of bringing back Andrew and Tobey, for me it is the wrong time to do so.

We know how Sony works on movies and frankly I’m less than impressed. Therefore I would not be surprised to find out they are desperate to throw the other Spider-Men back in. Let’s hope Feige won this battle for now. If Sony really wants another team up movie they could simply have Andrew and Tobey lead a story in the SSMU. I know it would probably be rubbish without Marvel’s involvement, but the point is they can absolutely do that if they want. Then again from a box office point of view Sony wants Spider-Man 4 to be as big as No Way Home, whereas Marvel are probably happy to wait for Secret Wars to bring back people from the multiverse.
For now we have zero indications that either Tobey or Andrew are back for this movie. Though as said above, it’s not filming yet so the script can change. Equally, Sony’s MCU from Wish Universe, whilst rubbish so far, really needs an actual Spider-Man, so why not drop two in and have one remain?
