Chadwick Boseman kept his health a secret from virtually everyone.
This past week was a tragic one for fans. We lost an icon in the form of Chadwick Boseman. Somehow, over the course of the past four years, the actor had managed to keep working in Hollywood while keeping secret his very serious health issues. Because of that, his untimely death came out of the blue. No one expected any decline in health from Boseman, let alone his passing.
But, as it turns out, fans weren’t the only ones unaware of his health problems. Only a select few knew about Boseman’s battle with colon cancer. This includes the folks over at Marvel Studios, who fully expected Boseman to return as T’Challa in Black Panther 2. According to a new report from THR, Kevin Feige didn’t find out about Boseman’s issues until the rest of the world did.
In fact, Boseman himself, according to a source close to the actor, thought he was going to beat cancer until roughly a week before his death. He planned on beating it, putting on weight, and getting back in the Black Panther suit come March of next year.
While we are sure Marvel Studios is working hard trying to figure out their next steps in the Black Panther franchise, for the time being, they’re focusing on respecting Boseman’s legacy. Instead of focusing on the sequel, they are paying tribute to Boseman, which is probably the best route to go at this stage.
Once some time has passed, I’m sure we’ll hear more about the options that lay before Disney and Marvel Studios. But, for the time being, let’s follow Disney’s lead and just respect the man who helped raise people of color into the world of mainstream superheroes.
